DirecTV takes 'Slap' in U.S.
LONDON -- Provocative Oz drama "The Slap," in line with the worldwide top selling novel, would be to bow within the U.S. and Canada. DCD Privileges has offered the eight-part series to paybox DirecTV. Show will air around the Audience Network funnel. In Canada, "The Slap" will bow on Ontario-based pubcaster TVO. The drama comes from Christos Tsiolkas' novel and was released in Oz via ABC1 recently. Show is attaining plaudits and rankings within the U.K., where it's proven on trendy web BBC4. In Blighty, "The Slap" has won a typical audience of 830,500 (4% share), that is three occasions the slot average for that BBC web. "The Slap" follows the autumn-from a dispute in a family barbecue whenever a guy hits a young child who's not his boy. Created by Matchbox Pictures for ABC Television, the skein features British thesp Sophie Okonedo. Cast includes Melissa George, Essie Davis and Jonathan LaPaglia.
